Although some parts of the country have already seen snow (* chills *), winter does not officially start until December 21. And as you slowly start changing your skincare routine over the next few weeks in preparation for the coming season (read: take out the strong moisturizers), don’t forget your nail products. Translation: Swap your trusty fall burnt orange for winter 2022 nail color trends, which range from minimalist winter white to pretty lilac.
âThe trends this year for winter varnish colors seem to be a bit more everywhere than in previous years, [but] there’s a lot more textures, embellishments, and an overall ‘all-out’ feel, “New York-based editorial nail artist Alicia Torello told TZR. It turns out nail trends for winter align with popular makeup trends, namely embellishments (think: pearls and crystals). Don’t worry though, the expert assures there will always be more sleek winter classics, such as grays, nudes and reds. “But there is definitely a more mixed feeling,” Torello adds.
Below, TZR took to the industry’s favorite nail artists for their take on winter 2022 nail color trends (and of course, combed social media to see what the top content creators love right now). Keep scrolling to see the top seven shades that will dominate over the next few months.

According to Mimi D, a famous manicurist and nail artist, Snow Day In LA by OPI is a pearly white polish that will enhance your traditional winter white. âIt’s a full coverage white shade that is sure to enhance your holiday French manicure,â she told TZR. âIt is available in regular varnish and gel. Pro tip: add pearls for extra punch.
Red Apple Candy
Another color trend that Mimi D anticipates will be everywhere in winter 2022 is candy apple red polish, like A Night To Shine by Red Carpet Manicure or Truth Oar Dare by Pear Nova. âWith all the holiday-inspired red manicures, this shade is great as a standalone manicure or if you like nail art, creating a candy pattern is perfect with this shade,â she says. This is definitely one of the best pairings for your next holiday makeup looks.
One of the best things about blue is that there is no ârightâ season to wear the color. While navy blue works well with any outfit you put on, a soft baby blue will be a must-have winter mood booster. Give the polish a holiday touch by applying a little clear glitter polish.
Do you like the growing popularity of green nails? If so, here’s a piece of good news: mossy green in the next This color to test driving. âIt gives a muted green vibe that goes well with all skin tones,â the color trend for Elle Gerstein, a famous nail artist whose clients include Gigi Hadid and Katie Holmes, told TZR. Examples of this particular shade are Wild Willow from Orly and Liquid Glass Lacquer Sage from Static Nails.
One popular color that Mimi D spots is “You Attract Me” from Nails.Inc. âIt’s a bronze blue glaze that looks great on its own or magnetized,â she tells TZR. There’s also OPI’s Turn Bright After Sunset, which is the perfect dark glitter polish to wear to any upcoming holiday party.
You probably pull out your lilac polish every spring like clockwork, but this year consider doing it a few months earlier. According to Instagram, the pretty pastel nail polish trend is going nowhere this winter.
Gerstein says ivory, bone, and porcelain are all colors you’ll see a lot this coming season. âNails for winter are a classic cream shade and paired with garden hues and latte accents,â she notes. For those undertones, she suggests Dusk To Dune and OPI’s NailtopiaCreme from La creme.
