Oktoberfest kicks off in Sterling Heights this weekend with beer, music and more

It’s time to unwrap the lederhosen and save room for the schnitzel and hefeweizen as Oktoberfest is coming to Sterling Heights.

With the shocked year and a half that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about, cities and communities have been forced to cancel, postpone and change their most cherished traditions. Gatherings, festivals and all manner of events have been affected since the arrival of the coronavirus, and communities like Sterling Heights have proven adept at adapting to the times.

One of those traditions, Sterlingfest, was not immune to the uncertainties caused by the pandemic and the lingering restrictions on public gatherings. The annual summer arts and music fair was canceled earlier this year.

But rather than leave a hole in the community calendar, Sterling Heights has pivoted with a new take on an even older tradition: Oktoberfest. The weekend festival takes place in the city’s Dodge Park this Friday October 8 and Saturday October 9 and is free.

We wrote about OktoberFAST 5K’s “fun run” events earlier this season and now, as the day before the festival itself approaches, more details are emerging.

Oktoberfest and fall themed beers will be on sale at the event, along with craft beer and seltzer. A commemorative Oktoberfest 2021 beer mug will also be on sale.
