Machine Gun Kelly is done with rock
Machine Gun Kelly announced that after two pop punk albums; “Tickets To My Downfall” in 2020 and “Mainstream Sellout” this year, he’s done with rock. Kelly said in an interview with Kevan Kenney of Audacy that his next project will see him return to rapping, and that he needs people to ‘start to miss his pop punk sound’ (although they like it or not is really a question that puzzles the mind).
I’m going to make a rap album. For no other reason, no point to prove, no chip on my shoulder… If I keep doing things to prove things to people, I’m going to, one, drive myself crazy and, two, not make a good product.
I did “Tickets” and “Mainstream Sellout” because I wanted to do them. I now also have to make people miss this sound because
“Tickets” and “Mainstream Sellout” are companion albums, I don’t think making a third is so [similar to those] going to be thrilling unless it’s missed.

Kelly later added that he’s “gonna do this tour and I’m gonna go in where I left ‘Hotel Diablo’ and grow my storytelling as a rapper and find an innovative new sound for hip-hop Machine Gun Kelly. This is where my enthusiasm lies and where I, as an archaeologist of music, want to explore. »
