The 56e edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 1-9, 2022) has unveiled its competition sections. Thirteen of the Official Selection titles are directed by returning filmmakers. “From the 1,500 films that have been submitted this year, we have chosen 33 never-before-seen cinematic works that offer a true reflection of our taste – a taste derived from a belief in meaningful nervousness and the championing of new means of expression. cinematographic. which, for all that, do not oppose the receptivity or the desires of the public”, specifies the artistic director of the festival, Karel Osh. The lineup revealed so far includes 27 world, three international and three European premieres of films from five continents. Two domestic filmmakers will bow in the Crystal Globe competition: A variety of non-monogamous forms of intimacy will be explored in Tomasz Winskihis beginnings, Borders of loveand period drama Word by Beata Parkanovawho returns to the festival with his second feature film. The next edition of KVIFF will inaugurate its new Proxima competition section (see the news). This replaces the East of the West competition, which was primarily focused on Central and Eastern European cinema. Festival organizers call the new competition “an inclusive space for images from young filmmakers and acclaimed authors, showcasing bold works that defy categorization”, with no geographical restrictions and “open to filmmakers from all over the world”.
