The City of Chester has put together a full schedule of events for the 2021 Fall Festival which will take place October 15-17.
American Banner Amusements has been booked to offer carnival rides! Presale tickets cost $ 1 each or get 24 tickets for $ 18. They are available at Town Hall until 3 p.m. on October 14. Regular box office prices are $ 1 each or 24 tickets for $ 20. The trips will require 1 to 3 tickets. The bracelets will be available for $ 25 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 15; or for $ 20 between noon and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Wristbands must be purchased at the ticket office on the day of use.
Rides opening hours: Friday, 5 p.m. -? ; Saturday afternoon-?; and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
There are over 40 vendors registered for the craft sale and vendors. Buyers will find Crafts, Blankets, Koozies, Wood Crafts, Women’s Clothing, Scentsy, Watkins, Candles, Soaps, Doormats, Signs, Antiques, Porch Signs, Mary Kay, Halloween costumes, Color Street, Tastefully Simple, flags, jewelry, knives, bath products, art and more.
Make sure you’re hungry as over 12 food vendors offer ice cream, rib eye sandwiches, grilled cheese, nachos, pulled pork, Italian beef, funnel cakes, pretzels fries, cotton candy, Polish sausages, grilled pork sandwiches, wings, Bayou baskets, STL short ribs, fish, pork burgers, curling fries, traveling tacos, pork rinds with hot corn, nachos au caramel and more!
For drinking, there will be lemon shakes, frozen lemonade, coffee, shakes, sodas, water, tea, Gatorade and beer.
Friday kicks off at Cole Memorial Park with an evening of fun family activities. The “A Zoo for You” Children’s Zoo is sponsored by Gilster Mary-Lee Corp employees. and Touch-A-Truck is sponsored by Chester employees. Both events are free and take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
While you’re at it, enjoy a Chuckwagon dinner, complete with a coarse and tumble burger, cowboy beans, corn on the cob, saddle bag cake, and a drink. The meal is prepared by Barb’s Bounty and $ 5 bills are required. Get them now at Town Hall, as there will only be a limited number of tickets available on Friday.
After food, sit down for a free, relaxing screening of “Ghostbusters” on the lawn. Bring snacks and drinks. It is sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Chester.
A free Teen Street Dance will be held Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Swanwick Street, behind Chester Square Gazebo Park, with music from DJ Good Times Mobile. If your teens have passed you, head to the festival grounds for DJ Dick Fitzwell, hosted by the Knights of Columbus from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Guess who’s coming for a meeting ?! Fredbird will make an appearance Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. near the central booth. Fredbird is sponsored by Shawnee Trails Realty and the County Journal.
The Friday night headliner is the OG’s, performing on the main stage from 8 p.m. to midnight. This five-piece group plays classic rock and electric blues with a few surprises. They will be joined by DB Productions LLC who will provide sound and lighting.
Solo artists or families are invited to create a sidewalk masterpiece during the Chalk the Walk competition on Saturday. Entries will be judged on workmanship, material use, originality, creativity, material use and overall design.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories and age groups: Best plays for children, 5-9 years and 10-15 years; Best play for adults, for ages 16 and over; and Best Family Room.
Let your creativity run wild, sculpt your Jack-o’-lanterns and take them to competition on Saturday. Prizes will be awarded for:
• 10 years and under, the dumbest Jack and the most traditional Jack
• 11-17 years old, Dumbest Jack, Most Traditional Jack and Scariest Jack
• 18+, Dumbest Jack, Most Traditional Jack, Scariest Jack and “Jack Good Gourd”.
For sellers and traders, a prize will be awarded to the best decorated autumn stand.
New this year, the Great Pumpkin Street Drags, sponsored by O’Reilly Auto Parts in Chester. The Street Drags will feature Pumpkin Racers and Pumpkin Derby Racers competing in a unique side-to-side elimination race. Participants from each division will compete for the coveted trophy. A prize will also be awarded for the best decoration and the most innovative design in all divisions.
Racing pumpkins are made using a single fall pumpkin or gourd and a prefabricated frame of any kind (skateboard, stroller, Tonka truck, etc …) Categories are 4-7 years old, 8-11 years old, 12 -15 years old, 16 for adults and families.
Meanwhile, Pumpkin Derby Racers are made from a fall pumpkin or squash that have independent axles with attached wheels. The categories are 5-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-15 years and 16 to adult.
Pumpkin Racers and Derby Racers come in different shapes, sizes and speeds. Race time is 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Kid Zone will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot in front of St. Mary’s Church, featuring inflatables, interactive games, Silly Jilly the Balloon Artist and Heroes for Kids. Heroes are volunteers who bring together costumed heroes, law enforcement, firefighters and military personnel to bring smiles to children and promote community relations. Heroes for Kids is sponsored by the law firms of Fisher, Kerkhover, Coffey and Gremmels and Colvis Investment Services.
Sponsors of Golden Pumpkin are Benson’s Wine Bar, First Baptist Church, Knight Hawk Coal, Plumbing Solutions Inc., Rozier’s Country Market, Ace Hardware and Domino’s. The sponsors of Silver Gourd are Manor At Craig Farms, Darrell and Teri Crum, State Farm Insurance, Paul Gentry, Buena Vista National Bank, Chester National Bank and Dieterich Bank. Bronze Squash sponsors are Victor’s Medi Center Pharmacy and Chester Animal Hospital.
The newest member of the Popeye and Friends Character Trail will be unveiled Saturday at 11 a.m. on State and Taylor streets. The town will host Harold HamGravy, the original Thimble Theater actor and longtime love of OliveOyl.
Another Saturday event is the Disc Golf Tournament at Cole Memorial Park. Bring your friends and family for a good-natured little competition while having fun. The tournament is sponsored by the Southern Illinois Substance Abuse Alliance. Prizes will be awarded.
The Chester Volleyball Club will host a mixed sand volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Chester Eagles, starting at 11 a.m. The registration fee is $ 60.
The Chester Running Club and St. Mary’s PTO have categories for 5K running (men and women) and categories for 5K walking (men and women). The registration fee is $ 25 and includes a shirt.
The St. Mary’s PTO will host a car show on Saturday at Cole Memorial Park. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon and the registration fee is $ 10. There will be a food stand, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and music for a DJ.
The Breezy Hill RC Flyers will be hosting a Fun Fly on Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., at Breezy Hill Flying Field at the Cohen Resort. Buddy flies a plane and learns all about the club.
Sam Higgerson is the Saturday morning DJ. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., join the Rowdy Wranglers String Band on the main stage with bluegrass, old-fashioned country and rockabilly. The Rowdy Wranglers are sponsored by Square One Flooring and JT Blankenship Inc. Country singer Jesse James of Nashville, Tennessee will take the stage from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm Saturday’s headliners are the Sojourn Rocs Band, a band professional rock and country covers on stage. from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The Fall Festival Parade has at least 35 admissions and will depart at 3 p.m. from Chester High School for the Randolph County Courthouse. After the parade, make your way to the central grandstand for an encounter with the characters from Disney and Paw Patrol, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch and good old Frosty! Sponsored by the City of Chester Parks and Recreation Committee.
Join us at 5:30 p.m. when Master Magician Terry Richison takes the main stage to amaze us.
Falling Skies Pyrotechnics will light up the sky with the fireworks finale around 8 p.m. These are available at Town Hall now and while supplies last at the central stand.
